Woodberry Wine adds Richard Böcking to its dynamic portfolio
Acclaimed Mosel Riesling Producer has rich history and tremendous future
Troy, Mich. – Woodberry Wine, LLC announces the addition of German producer Richard Böcking to its portfolio of sensational wines. The famous Böcking estate was established in 1623, thrived for hundreds of years, yet lost its focus in the 20th century. In 2010, the family re-invested in the vineyards and overhauled its operations. Owned and managed today by a new generation of the Böcking family, the operations management, including winemaking, is led by a life-long native of the Middle Mosel, Philipp Buchkremer. The focus is on natural viticulture and production, developing mostly drier Riesling wines that suit the contemporary tastes of the broad international market. In 2013, after almost 400 years, Böcking wines were finally introduced to the U.S. market and now, for the first time, are being imported into Michigan by Kindred Vines Import Company and distributed by Woodberry Wine.
The Böcking family was once one of the wealthiest in the Mosel, and even the famed poet von Goethe visited the family in 1792 and praised their Mosel wines. They are headquartered in a 14th century stone Rittersaal (Knights Hall), which was originally built as a wine cellar for Grevenburg Castle and they cultivate five vineyards – the Burgberg, Schlossberg, Ungsberg, Hühnerberg, and Taubenhaus, four of which are considered Grand Cru sites, with steep slate slopes characteristic of the Mosel. The estate has 15 acres under cultivation, with 95% Riesling plantings.
Dan Glisky, Jr., CEO and Managing Partner for Michigan wine distributor Woodberry Wine stated, “We couldn’t be more proud to represent the wines of Richard Böcking to the Michigan market. The winery is rich in history and the wines captivate you with a new world style that is fresh and exciting”. Sisi Carroll, Director of North American Marketing for the winery and a direct Böcking descendant stated, “We are thrilled to have Woodberry Wine as our distribution partner in Michigan. Their reputation is impeccable and they have an exceptionally talented team of professionals that we trust to proudly represent our brand.”
The wines of Richard Böcking are immediately available throughout the State of Michigan.
