More about this Producer
From the teaching of our ancestors; Everything was born in 2001 from a farsighted idea of my father, Antonio Pagano: “I want to make the Falerno del Massico known to the world”. Few people know that Falerno del Massico is the descendant of the famous Roman wine Falernum, which was considered one of the best reds ever by the emperors and patricians of Rome. However, despite its extraordinary fame in ancient times, with the decline of the Roman Empire and its subsequent fall, traces of this mythical wine were lost. The rediscovery of the production area of the Monte Massico area began during the 19th century, but only in the last 40 years have some local producers decided to recover the great tradition by re-proposing a wine that could recall the famous nectar of the times of the Ancient Romans. Thus was born the rediscovery of a great terroir and a wine that today ranks rightfully among the best excellences of Campania winemaking. Antonio, is one of the pioneers of this project, dictated solely by the love for his land and I, the son, got overwhelmed by his passion and together we created the project. Our company is divided into two different territorial areas: Casertano, and Irpinia. In Casertano our vineyards extend over two terraces under the municipality of Casale di Carinola (CE), from which you can enjoy a unique panorama, from which you can glimpse Ischia, Procida and the Gulf of Gaeta.
Vines of Aglianico, Piedirosso and Falanghina alternate, planted in the years 2002, 2003 and 2004 next to the pre-existing ancient vines that have been producing local varieties of white and red berried grapes for over 70 years. The altitude is between 270 m and 300 m above sea level, behind the extinct volcano of Roccamonfina and in the area line from the sea at about 5 km. The presence of the volcanic terrain and the proximity to the sea create a fundamental geo-climatic balance for the production of our wines. The remarkable thermal excursion between day and night stimulates the synthesis of olfactory and gustatory precursors, which give our wines their unavoidable fingerprint. In Irpinia, on the other hand, two indigenous varieties are grown that integrate the range of our products: Greco di Tufo and Fiano di Avellino. The vineyards are respectively Tufo and Lapio; here the altitude is between 500 and 600 meters and the ground is characterized by the presence of clay and limestone and boasting a south / west exposure. This area represents the terroir of excellence for the production of the two white wines that have always characterized this wonderful corner of the world.
Fattoria Pagano has as its primary objective the respect for nature and its fruits. A philosophy focused on bringing wine as close as possible to nature; the goal is cultivate respecting the soil, the microclimate and plant biodiversity. We need to obtain intact and ripe fruits, in order to create the conditions for which the fragrance, taste and aroma of the wine can be the purest expression of the vineyard. Reason why a great wine can only be born from the care and love transmitted for one’s vineyard. Harvest must be a celebration, a moment of joy and naturalness, according to the ancient traditions of the area.
