Dinner and “La Tyre” vertical tasting, Local Kitchen, Ferndale, 7pm
$65/seat all-inclusive!
Join us and Vincent Thebaud, Ambassador for the Brumont Family of wines, on Monday, June 30, in the store for a sampling of wines ranging from everyday whites to cellar-worthy reds for a limited seating dinner on the front patio of Local Kitchen restaurant in Ferndale. Award-winning chef Rick Halberg is preparing a three course dinner, including appetizers, paired specifically to the wines. With the guidance of Vincent Thebaud, we’ll delve even deeper into the most ambitious of Château Montus bottlings, starting with a vertical of Château Montus La Tyre.Released only in the very best vintages, La Tyre hails from a single, exceptionally steep vineyard, the highest south facing site on the estate. The slope receives extended sunshine and gentle winds from the west. 100% Tannat from extremely low yields aged in 100% new oak barrels for 16 months produces a wine of remarkable vigor and ability to improve in a cellar.
With the main courses, we’ll be drinking various vintages, going back to 2002, of the classic Château Montus and the Château Montus Cuvée Prestige, which is based on a selection of the best terroirs of the vineyards. For the grand finale we’ll have a course to pair with 1990 Château Montus Cuvée Prestige “en Magnum”.
Alain Brumont brought the South West France appellation of Madiran to the attention of the world. He always believed that the tannic and black-skinned Tannat grape variety indigenous to the region had the potential to produce exceptional wines and in 1980 he purchased the badly rundown Château Montus. For over three decades now, his tireless efforts, genuine passion (some call it obsession), and most of all, the quality of his wines, have made him an icon of the South West.
Tannat grown on the pebbly clay of Brumont’s painstakingly selected plots in Madiran produces the least well-known of France’s great red wines. It’s dense, dark, and loaded with red and black fruits. Aromatically complex with flowers, graphite, fruits and earth above a richly textured palate and a finish you can cut with a knife. These are wines that will age gracefully for decades. Think classed-growth Bordeaux at a fraction of the price. Pair them with grilled red meat, duck confit, cassoulet, chocolate desserts and even cigars.
