“The Judgment of Paris” – – – Join us for a celebration of French Cuisine and Wine at Victoria’s!
Bastille Day is the French National Holiday celebrated on July 14th each year. In France it is called Fête National. It commemorates the anniversary of the “Storming of the Bastille” on July 14th, 1789; the storming of the Bastille fortress-prison was seen as a symbol of the uprising of the modern nation.
The event lead to the French Revolution and marked the end of the French monarchy. During the “Reign of Terror”, at the height of the French Revolution, both Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette were deposed and the royal family was imprisoned. Marie Antoinette was tried, convicted of treason and executed by guillotine on 16 October 1793, nine months after her husband. In popular culture, the phrase “Let them eat cake” is often attributed to Marie Antoinette. However, there is no contemporary evidence to support that she ever uttered the phrase.
The evening includes a petite 5 course meal with 6 wines in 3 challenges. Wines presented by Michael Cregar, Certified Sommelier.
