Catherine Barat and Philippe Lamarque operate the winery. They strive to combine quality with tradition. The cultural methods were completely modified with the arrival of oenologist M.H. Schaaper. These efforts allow them to be sold all around France, Europe, North America, and in China.
At Chateau Puynormond, they believe that blending Merlot and Cabernet Franc is the winning combination. The Merlot brings the fruit, some color and makes the wine flesh, and the Cabernet Franc adds some complexity as well as a floral nose. The mouth is full of tannins, but with a velvet finish. The weather of the region is strongly influenced by the Atlantic Ocean, which gives beautiful seasons favorable to a good maturity of the grapes. For better quality grapes, the leaves are manually thinned.
Situated in the commune of Montagne, between prestigious neighbors Saint-Emilion and Pomerol, Château Puynormond overlooks an amphitheater of vines from a clay terrior.
