More about this Producer
Gascony, lying between the Atlantic Ocean and the Pyrenees Mountains, is home to vineyards with real character, just like the men who cultivate them. Alain Brumont is the leader here. He was a pioneer in Madiran and Côtes de Gascogne wines, bringing them to rank with the world’s best. The Brumont wines benefit now from an international recognition and remain at a very good value for money.
An amazing French success story.
Alain Brumont took over the little family wine estate, Château Bouscassé, in 1979, then purchased Château Montus to create the wine of his dreams, “his” wine. Inventive, a tireless builder, and possessing a good bit of sheer nerve, he had constructed his first underground cellars at Bouscassé in 1988, then the new Château Montus cellars in 1995. By 2003, the chateau had been renovated to receive seminars and special events. In 1990 he discovered the ideal stretch of land that would become a world-renowned icon: La Tyre.
The Tannat Icon
The Tannat grape is key to Madiran wines. In Alain Brumont, it encountered a winegrower who would rank it with the world’s greatest varieties. By strictly managing yields, determining fullest maturity, vinifying and cultivating always with daring yet authenticity, Alain Brumont has created his own style, a unique taste that makes great wines. Elected first French winemaker in the 90’s, he also and above all benefits from an exceptional environment where he found out and rehabilitated remarkable terroirs. Then, the perfect partition between the grape variety and the terroir gives that extra touch that will make an exceptional wine.
“Alain Brumont has one ambition: that all he does as a wine grower is there in the glass. Tirelessly exploring Gascony’s lands, showcasing local grape varieties, lovingly managing his vines with natural methods, vinifying in full respect of authenticity, he leads French Southwest winemaking – whether it be in the Madiran, Pacherenc du Vic Bilh or Côtes de Gascogne appellations. Château Bouscassé, Château Montus and Torus have become icons in the world of great wines; each vintage is a fulfillment of his dreams.”
