Winemaker Simon Barker and Gillette Johnson, from Barker’s Marque winery, Marlborough, New Zealand, are taking a USA road trip from Wisconsin to Maine.
Wednesday May 14th was their day in West Michigan. The highlight of the visit was an evening cookout after the day’s in-market work. Their 30′ RV parked on the lawn at the Riverhouse, Ada – by the scenic Thornapple River. Our Riverhouse host, Christine Gill, provided the perfect setting for a few of our customers to join Simon and Gillette to sample Barker’s Marque wines with lamb, scallops and mussels….supplied and prepared by our gracious New Zealand hosts. Joining Christine Gill to complete our guest list were Bill Koski and Eric Teasley were there from the Gilmore Collection’s Roses Restaurant and Mangiamo’s, Patty Maloney from Forest Hills Foods, Sarah Derylo from Sicilianos, and Laurie Teasley of the Crushed Grape. A light rain kept is under the RV’s awning…but did not spoil a great event. The Barker’s sauvignon blanc wines…Arona, Ranga Ranga, 3 Brooms and the Loop were excellent with the delicious food and a great time was had by all. Thanks to Woodberry Somelier/Sales Rep, Kristen Pennington, for helping me make Simon and Gillette’s time with us in West Michigan a big success.
